“I Look to You” is Whitney Houston’s first album of new material in seven years. The struggles that the diva has endured have been well-documented, but she appears to have triumphed over her demons, and is aiming to prove that she can still be relevant in today’s music scene.

I haven’t listened to the entire album yet, but the songs I’ve heard have actually been pretty good. Whitney’s albums tend to not hold up well after repeated listens, so this comes as a pleasant surprise. Among the songwriters and producers on this album are Akon, Alicia Keys and R. Kelly. The album manages to be contemporary without being uber-trendy, which means (thankfully) no guest rappers and no Auto-Tune.
