  • American Idol Season 11 – Who Makes The Top 10?

Mid-way through Monday night’s show, Ryan Seacrest unveiled the world’s worst kept secret. Even though TMZ reported it the night before, Seacrest had to pretend that many viewers didn’t know that Jermaine Jones was in trouble and was going to be eliminated from the show.

(I didn’t think he should’ve even made the top 13, but oh well.)

There were several warrants out for his arrest and he’d used uncreative fake names to evade punishment (until now) like Joel Jones. Jones had no chance in hell of winning this show, so while I hope he can get his act together, I wasn’t really sad to see him go. They will still eliminate someone tonight.

After Monday’s boring performances, here’s my top and bottom 3 for the week:

    Top 3
    1. Joshua Ledet
    2. Hollie Cavanagh
    3. Colton Dixon

    Bottom 3
    1. Heejun Han
    2. Shannon Magrane
    3. Deandre Brackensick

Ryno’s not playing around. He brings up Phillip, Skylar, Elise, and Joshua to the center stage. Either Elise is going to the bottom three, or no one is. No way any of the other three are going there. Joshua is fine. Phillip is safe. Skylar is safe and Elise is in the bottom three.

Demi Lovato is out singing Give Your Heart A Break. I was hoping she’d sing my favorite song Love Me Like A Love Song, but then I remembered that was Selena Gomez’s song. I liked Lovato better on Sonny With A Chance.

Ryno brings out Deandre, Muskrat Colton, Shannon, and Jessica. If anyone’s in trouble, it’s Deandre. I think Shannon has one more bad performance in her before she’s going to be in the bottom three again. Muskrat Colton is safe. Jessica is safe. Well, I was wrong. Deandre is safe and Shannon is in the bottom three.

It’s Daughtry’s turn to perform and he performs in Daughtry-like fashion. It’s been stated that Colton is a huge Daughtry fan and they hung out recently. To the right is the photo, via Chris Daughtry’s Twitter, they showed on American Idol. One guy needs to share some of his hair with the other guy. I’m not saying who is who.

And now, it’s time for Hollie, Heejun, and Erika. Hollie and her soulless power ballads are safe. Heejun is safe and Erika is in the bottom three. America doesn’t like them some females. America doesn’t like them some blond females. J. Lo thinks it’s unfair that Elise is up there. Randy and Steven agree. Guys, Elise is still paying penance for last week. And because she looks like she’s plastered 24/7. However, Elise is safe. So it’s down to Erika and Shannon.

Well, poor Shannon is a goner. She gets to sing for her life, but even if she kills it, I don’t imagine the judges save her. Not when they’re going to need to save Joshua Ledet or Jessica Sanchez in a few weeks when America screws up.

The judges won’t save her. Shannon is eliminated. And even worse, she doesn’t make the top 10 tour. If she wasn’t so darn tall, she’s cute enough and charming enough to go the Disney route. She has a bit of pizazz, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she was doing TV or something else show business related.

    Seacrest out!

  • American Idol Season 11 – Who Makes The Top 12?

Wednesday night was the start of the nitty gritty for this season of American Idol. The top 13 performed for their pop singing lives. The boys performed Stevie Wonder songs while the girls had to suck it up and sing Whitney Houston songs. If you missed any of it, I recapped it on Popblerd.

Here were my picks for the top and bottom 3:

    Top 3
    1. Jessica Sanchez
    2. Erika Van Pelt
    3. Phillip Phillips

    Bottom 3
    1. Elise Testone
    2. Shannon Magrane
    3. Jeremy Rosado

Right out of the X Factor playbook, the judges will make the final decision tonight which means Jenny Lo will cry. The lowest vote getter for the boys and girls both will be in the bottom two and only one will make it to next week.

I had to fast forward through the group performance. I couldn’t stomach them hurting Stevie Wonder’s feelings by screwing up As so badly.

Ryno brings up Jessica, Elise, and Hollie to the stage. Jimmy Iovine says that Jessica’s performance was the best in Idol history. Fantasia just gave him the side eye. Jessica and Hollie are safe and Elise is in the bottom three. Baby girl is in trouble.

If you missed Jessica’s rendition of I Will Always Love You, you owe it to yourself to watch it.

Ryno calls in Hee Jun, Jermaine, and Colton. Colton and Hee Jun are safe while Jermaine is in the bottom three. America didn’t like Jermaine enough to keep him in after Hollywood. This could spell doom for ‘maine.

Last year’s runner up Lauren Alaina is singing Georgia Peaches. She’s lost a little bit of weight and looks good. Ryno called her, “Our own …” I wonder if when he sees Corey Clarke, he goes, “Hey, there’s our own, Corey Clarke.” Alaina is trying to be Carrie Underwood Jr. and that’s not a bad person to try to emulate. But we already have one.

Ryno brings in Erika, Shannon, and Skylar. Surprisingly, it’s Erika who takes the seat first. She’s in the bottom three for the girls. Skyler is safe while Shannon is in the bottom three. I still think Elise is the one to go.

Phillip, Joshua, Jeremy, and Deandre are up. I’m going to guess that Jeremy and Deandre fall into the bottom three. Ryno says Phillip is safe. Jeremy is in the bottom three predictably. And I was wrong. It’s Joshua who is in the bottom three. Immediately, Ryno saves Erika and Joshua. So it’s Shannon and Elise for the girls and Jeremy and Jermaine for the boys.

Your girl Mary J. Blige, who might be the greatest mentor in American Idol history is performs Why.

Ryno is back. Steven Tyler thinks Jeremy is going home. Ryno tells Jermaine he’s safe. I think Jeremy is toast against Shannon, but might have a life against Elise. Ryno tells Shannon she’s safe. So it’s Jeremy against Elise. And the three judges save Elise. Damn. Big Pun is gone.

  • American Idol Season 10 – Who Makes The Final 2?

There was a lot to take in last night. All three contestants sang three times, giving us three different looks as we near the end of this season of American Idol. Lauren is singing well, but doesn’t have that stage presence down. Haley is peaking at the right time. And Scotty probably had his worst week in a while, but it might’ve been because the other two overshadowed him. Let’s get to the elimination show.

    J. Lo Booty Alert
She kind of gave us a cool look, but I don’t think we’ll get those tight white pants that I was hoping for all season long.

The producers put together another useless video package with the remaining three meeting with JJ Abrams.

It’s always fun to see the contestants go back to their hometown, but I’m going to bypass all of that. You’ve seen it before, you know what it’s all about.

In one of the more odd moves, three guys were on stage and Ryno Seacrest said they were releasing their US debut and then they started to sing in Italian. Of course they did.

Nicole “The Terminator” Scherzinger still has a solo career? Wow. And she’s on American Idol performing her single. That’s two weeks in a row for her since she was in Steven Tyler’s video last week too. I kind of feel badly for her because she’s going to try so hard to gain any traction as a solo artist and it’s probably never going to happen. 50 Cent is on the song, which makes it three R&B/pop tracks that he’s guested on recently, including one with El DeBarge and a posthumous Michael Jackson track.

It’s time to get to the results. The first person in the final two is Scotty McCreary. Those teenage girls love them some Scotty McCreary. And facing him is going to be Lauren Alaina. Haley goes home. I’m not sure I’ve ever been so bummed to see someone go home after I’ve picked against them all season. I loved Haley early on, then thought she was getting by on her looks, and loved her again in the last two weeks. Her leaving makes the finale a bit milquetoast. I once compared Haley to Jasmine Trias. A pox on me.

She performed Benny & The Jets with a wink and a smile as if to say, “You voted off the wrong person people.” That girl figured it all out.
