  • Friday Throwback – Gentle

Who remembers Dino? If the YouTube community is any measuring stick, not too many. But I do. Dino’s Summergirls was a jam in the late 80s and I even bought his second album Swingin’ in 1990, which featured lead single Romeo. Unfortunately, I can’t find videos for either Summergirls or Romeo, so Gentle will do. I also found 24/7, but that video is terrible.

I went to a New Kids On The Block concert (I think it was the Hangin’ Tough tour) with my sister, her best friend, and her mom many years ago and while I wasn’t much of a New Kids fan back then, I was interested in seeing the two opening acts. Dino and The Cover Girls opened that night and I seem to remember more about their performances than I do the New Kids’, though I do remember some of the silly dance routines. Interestingly enough, according to Wikipedia, Dino married one of The Cover Girls.

    – What is up with that hair?

    – This is a total early 90s video – shot in black and white, silly romantic scenes, and the band playing on stairs.

    – Was that Randy Jackson on bass? I’m kidding on that one. I think.

    – And Kid from Kid ‘n Play on the horn? Ok, I’m really kidding on that one.

    – Why is the dude on the drums singing background?

    – I don’t ever want to stop loving you girl, so don’t you ever stop, being my world.

Ah, the greatness of cheesy late 80s, early 90s music. It takes me back.

  • Friday Throwback – Big Ole Butt

What better way to kick off the weekend than with a song that was an ode to big ole booties? This a few years before Sir Mix-a-Lot’s song about love of the backside.

I want to meet Lisa and Brenda now, nearly 20 years later, to see if they still have it.

    • Tina might’ve had grace and poise like a ballerina, but no ballerina could wear a dress like that.
    • Don’t ask me how I’m living, cause yo I’m living swell.
    • I feel badly for LL’s wife now after watching the first minute of this video.
    • What’s up with the hand held shaky camera work? Is it supposed to simulate a bouncing rear end?
    • How old was LL at this time, talking about going to high schools to peep the girls?
    • Damn, he left the ballerina for big bootie Brenda.
    • I’m leavin’ you, see ya!
  • Friday Throwback – Flava In Ya Ear (remix)

I’ve been writing my Friday Throwback post at my own blog for about the last 9 months, but I thought it was perfect for the blog here at Music Help Web. Basically, what I do is take a song from my youth, find the video on YouTube, and re-watch it and just chart my thoughts about it.

Let’s give it up for Craig Mack.

    – How cute, Puffy and Biggie are wearing matching hats.

    – Did you know that Biggie got more butts than ashtrays?

    – Don’t be mad, UPS is hiring.

    – Puffy kind of looked like a broke Michael Jackson grabbing his crotch during Craig Mack’s verse.

    – What was Irv Gotti doing in the background?

    – Has anyone asked LL Cool J what the heck his verse was about? Couscous? Tongue kiss a piranha?

    – Hey look, there’s half of Busta Rhymes. When he used to be fun.

That’s still one of the greatest posse cuts ever. But whatever happened to Craig Mack? Well, Biggie showed up and took the hip hop world by storm and Mack kind of got left behind. According to his Wikipedia entry, he was scheduled to drop something last year, but it was shelved. Maybe he’ll bring flava to your ear another day.
