Well, we should have seen this coming, seeing as no supergroup ever lasts, but it looks like the unholy union of former (and future) Stone Temple Pilots vocalist Scott Weiland with three former Guns ‘N Roses members and one very lucky almost-nobody as Velvet Revolver is coming to a particularly nasty end.
At a concert in Amsterdam recently, Weiland reportedly shocked his bandmates by announcing that it would be their last show together. While the band was expected to take a hiatus while Weiland returned to STP for some reunion shows this summer, a growing war of words between Weiland and his former band members has come as a wee bit of an unexpected twist.
Guitarist Slash (no stranger to diva-like frontmen…all this and the guy’s worked closely with Lenny Kravitz *and* Michael Jackson…no wonder he smokes like a chimney) issued a statement that said: “This band is all about its fans and its music and Scott Weiland isn’t 100-percent committed to either. Among other things, his increasingly erratic onstage behavior and personal problems have forced us to move on”.
Damn.
It’s no surprise that all of the band members have faced drug and alcohol issues in the past. Unfortunately, rumors persist that Weiland has relapsed, a rumor that a couple of recent arrests haven’t exactly helped clear up.
Stay tuned as the saga unfolds…I personally can’t imagine STP having a whole lot more to say, and with the anemic sales of VR’s recent “Libertad”, I don’t know if anyone cared too much about them, either. Perhaps the best road for Weiland to travel on in the future is a solo one…
