Bizarre conspiracy theories aside, I have to admit that I find Alicia Keys delightful. One thing I’ve definitely noticed is that her videos are very well-made and usually (shock, horror!) follow some sort of plot. From her visit to a prison in “Fallin'” to her role as a smitten waitress in “You Don’t Know My Name” to exercising her dramatic chops as love interest to an ill-fated Common in “Like You’ll Never See Me Again”, it’s nice that there are still artists who take the medium of music video semi-seriously, although she just may be auditioning for future movie roles…anyway…
The video for the very Jackson 5-ish “Teenage Love Affair” puts Alicia on a college campus in a reasonably faithful 4-minute recasting of Spike Lee’s 1988 “School Daze”. It’s a cute video, although the dialogue leaves more than a bit to be desired. Check it out for yourself. Whatchu doin’ right now?
