Finally. We’re done paying the Lazaro tax.

Before we get to how the elimination went down, there were two fun Idol alumni performances.

    Who rocked the stage?

Scotty McCreery as “The Boy Next Door” performed first. I think Phillip Phillips’ success was helped by McCreery’s win from the previous year.

McCreery’s boyish charm makes him easily likable. He performed See You Tonight and had the teenage girls screaming.

Kelly Clarkson performed People Like Us. I’m adding the video of Clarkson’s performance because you must see what she’s wearing. She may have dressed herself in the dark.

Who were in the bottom two?

Ryno broke them into groups of two.

    The groups were:
    – Lazaro and Amber
    – Janelle and Angie
    – Candice and Kree (Summer)

Sometimes when Ryno does this, he surprises us with the results. In this case, there weren’t any surprises. They ended up exactly where you thought they would.

Lazaro and Amber were in the bottom two.

    Who went home?

Thankfully, it was Lazaro. I don’t think I could’ve taken any more of him and I’m not sure he could’ve taken the pressure of singing again knowing that he was barbecue chicken.

Idol holds a live Twitter poll when the singer who has been eliminated gets to sing for their life. To show you how useless social media can be, during Lazaro’s performance, it was nearly 60/40 to save him. More than half of the Twitter accounts who participated thought the judges should’ve saved Lazaro. How preposterous is that?

    This preposterous:

Randy made it as painless as possible. He sent Lazaro home sweet home.

There is danger in sending Lazaro home. We don’t have anyone else to pick on. Everyone else is at least halfway decent so people are going to have to create villains. If it weren’t for Angie’s turn from pageant wannabe to goofy teenager, I’d put my money on her. But now? I think it will be boring Janelle.

Next week, Janelle could be in big trouble.

    The story of the night

It’s really, the story of the season.

How does Lazaro Arbos continue to stay on this show? The American Idol producers cut their own throats by showing us so much Lazaro in the auditions. His audition video went viral and many people tweeted it out and posted it on Facebook. We’re paying for that right now.

I’m sure what’s saving Lazaro is that he gained quite a following and that following wants to root him on no matter how badly he sings.

Wednesday night he wasn’t awful. Just maybe terrible in comparison to the strong singers on the show. And because of the Lazaro tax we’re paying, someone else will probably go home this week instead of him. I predicted Burnell.

    Who rocked the stage?

Casey James was back shoulder shimmying looking like a waif model who forgot to take the hanger off of his shirt before he put it on.

Carrie Underwood also performed her new single, See You Again.

Who were in the top three?

Before Ryno unveiled the top three, he asked the judges who their top three were.

    Keith: 1. Kree 2. Angie 3. Amber
    Nicki: 1. Angie 2. Amber 3. Kree
    Randy: 1. Amber, 2. Kree 3. Angie
    Mariah: 1. Kree 2. Amber 3. Candice

I don’t understand all the Angie love. She was very plastic on Wednesday night. But I get the Kree (Summer), Candice, and Amber love. They are my three favorite contestants.

Ryno finally unveiled the top three and it was Kree (Summer), Angie, and um, Lazaro. Thanks American Idol producers.

Who were in the bottom three?

At least Candice was sent over to the other side as number four, which left Amber, Janelle, and Burnell in the bottom three. Amber quickly went to the other side leaving just Janelle and Burnell whose names rhyme.

    Who went home?

Sadly, poor Burnell had to pay the Lazaro tax. He did try to win his way back into the judges’ hearts, but they chose to not use the save.

Burnell did one thing that was really cool though. As he was finishing his song, he started to sing to his fellow contestants and saved the last big note right for Amber, who he has a mighty crush on. That boy good.

Katharine McPheeWednesday night’s show was a little rough around the edges. They re-introduced the duets and group performances which can go away as far as I’m concerned. It’s a bit awkward to see them sing in groups again in such a cutthroat competition. We saw Burnell and Devin throw Lazaro under the bus as the reason for their terrible Four Tops cover. And even a halfway decent Madonna Like A Prayer cover by Janelle and Kree (Summer) was littered with Nicki comments about how badly Kree outperformed Janelle. They just need to do away with them. It’s a solo competition. This isn’t X-Factor.

Will American spare Lazaro yet again? It’s at the point where you feel sorry for him. He has to know how out of his own league he is.

    Who rocked the stage?

Colton the Muskrat performed and it sounded nice, but I can’t take him seriously with the shaved and spiky mullet. How can anyone?

One Republic performed with Katharine McPhee as well. I got a lot of heat for ranking McPhee so highly on my top American Idol contests of all-time list. Some of that heat came from the guy who runs this very website. See if you can find him.

Keith Urban performed and he has that Huey Lewis thing going on. When he speaks, he has a slight accent. But when he sings, I hear no slight accent.

Who were in the bottom three?

The three guys who screwed up the Four Tops – Devin, Burnell, and Lazaro. All the girls made it and all the guys are in the bottom three. That’s some American Idol justice right there (even I’m sure the voting didn’t necessarily play out that way – they just did it for the drama). I now fear for Devin and Burnell’s lives.

    Who went home?

It wasn’t Lazaro. Devin Vasquez was the unlucky soul who had to pay the Lazaro tax. He performed a great version of Impossible and for a second, I thought they were going to save them, but they didn’t. I think they’re saving it for when one of the girls is unfairly placed in the bottom three.

    Is Lazaro the new Sanjaya?

I think Nicki thinks he’s a newborn baby for some reason. (Thanks to YMCM Baby.)
