  • Friday Throwback – No, No, No (Part II)

With the release of Beyonce’s latest album, I Am…Sasha Fierce, I tried to remember the first time I really noticed Beyonce. It was in the Wyclef remix to the Destiny’s Child song, No, No, No. Beyonce would’ve roughly been about 17 years old at the time.

    – Just in case you didn’t know, Wyclef wanted you to know that this is the remix.

    – Why are they doing the Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It dance?

    – So this was the foursome version of DC.

    – Is it just me, or does Kelly Rowland look like a skinny Adina Howard with that short hair?

    – You know it’s 1998 when Wyclef mentions the No Limit Soldiers in his verse. Kids today would be like, “Who dey?”

    – “Why you frontin’ when you know you really want it?” Wyclef wants to know this.

    – Though Beyonce was front and center, the rest of the girls got some screen time. So this wasn’t the Beyonce is going to be a solo star push for DC as of yet.

  • Friday Throwback – Buffalo Stance

Hey, it’s still Friday on the West Coast.

My dad was very slow to any sort of new kind of music. But every once in a while he’d surprise me with something that was kind of hip. Enter Neneh Cherry.

Cherry has always been this mysterious musical figure to me. I’m almost sure that I haven’t heard anything else except Buffalo Stance, but I should have right? She’s this eclectic artist with a great name and even named her first album Raw Like Sushi. Like, shouldn’t she have been a break out star?

    – Even though this video was probably shot in 1989, it’s still far closer to the videos of the 80s than of the 90s.

    – Huh? Sucka.

    – No money man can win my love either Neneh.

    – I wonder how much the gold toothed smile dude got paid to be in this video for 2 seconds.

    – She really needed about 5 hours worth of acting classes for this video, but it’s great in all of it’s terribleness.

    – How do you like that fat gold $ around her neck?

I didn’t know this, but this song was a number three single on the top 100 charts and number one on the dance charts.

Pops was right on the money with this one.

  • Friday Throwback – Thriller

I guess I had to do this one right?

Since tonight is Halloween, I figured I’d post Thriller as the Throwback. What better video to post tonight, than the evil of the Thriller? Ahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

    – Just remember, Mike doesn’t believe in the occult.

    – Mike looks like a linebacker with that jacket.

    – You think Mike and Ola Ray ever knocked boots?

    – Vincent Price’s voice still creeps me out.

    – Every time that dude comes out of the sewer, I think it’s going to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.

    – When Mike turns crazy on her, I still don’t think Ola Ray is scared enough.

    – I’ve seen someone in the NFL try Mike’s zombie dance in the end zone.

    – Why is Mike wearing all red and Ola Ray wearing all blue?

    – You know, Mike as the zombie doesn’t look much different than Mike today.

    – Break dancing dead people, who’d of thunk it?

What more can I say? It’s the single most famous music video of all time. And Mike will never wear pants that tight again.

    Happy trick or treating!
