There wasn’t going to be any shenanigans this time.

Last week, Ryno didn’t eliminate anyone. This week, someone would not only be eliminated, but the votes from the last two weeks would decide who went home. Thus, since Candice and Amber were in the bottom two at the end of last week’s show, they were already in a hole.

After Wednesday night’s show, here’s how I ranked the remaining contestants:

    1. Candice
    2. Angie
    3. Amber
    4. Kree (Summer)

But because Amber was already in the bottom two last week, I predicted that she would go home. I think Kree has one more week. Let’s see if I was right.

    But first…

    Who rocked the stage?

Season 7 winner, David Cook performed his new single Laying Me Low. His performance was a bit uninspired, but it was good to see him.

Will.I.Am. performed a song from The Great Gatsby soundrack, Bang Bang. I’m not quite sure what to think because it’s cheesy, but it’s also much better than his general fare. Take a look for yourself.

Who were in the bottom two?

Ryno first let us know who made it to next week. The selling point for next week is that they get to go home and get celebrated.

The first person to make it through was Angie. I think it’s really her show to lose.

The second person to make it through is the best singer of them all, Candice.

That left Amber and Kree in the bottom two, which is how you would’ve predicted it.

    Who went home?

As predicted, it was Amber who went home. In one of the more touching send-offs, Amber sang I Believe In You And Me and broke down at the end with her father right next to her. Definitely a tear-jerking moment.

If Candice is sent home next week, we will have an interesting discussion. And maybe rage. Or Nicki may just combust.

  • American Idol Season 11 – Who Makes The Top 3?

I have to apologize for not writing about last week’s elimination of one Skylar Laine. I was out of town chaperoning my son and his classmates at his science camp. But I did write a bit of a recap for those of you who came into the season late at Popblerd. I wrote about last night’s performances as well.

Last night’s show was a separation show. It was quite easy to separate the good from the bad. Jessica Sanchez and Joshua Ledet are head and shoulders above Phillip Phillips. And Phillip is head and shoulders above Hollie Cavanagh. When America eliminated Skylar Laine last week, it screwed up the possibility of maybe the best top four in American Idol history. Thanks for that voters.

Check out the performances from Joshua and Jessica below if you didn’t watch last night’s show:

Those performances cemented that Jessica and Joshua are my favorite twosome from any season of American Idol. I put together a poll to see what everyone else thought. Take the poll here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/6C2RDNL.

Now, onto the elimination show to see our top three.

The crew performed California Dreaming at the start of the show. Ryno is going to have to do his ultimate stretch job tonight to get us through this hour. At least Jenny Lo is performing tonight. (So is David Cook.)

He brings up Phillip Phillips first. Ryno pulled the move on him making him believe he made it, but he wasn’t going to give out the results just yet. Poor Double P looked quite embarrassed.

Hollie was next and Jimmy Iovine pretty much called her out for being the worst of the four. I’ve been saying that all season long. Ryno won’t spoil it. We don’t know if she’s safe or not yet either. Looks like we’re waiting until the end for all of them.

David Cook is performing his latest song. He probably doesn’t like Adam Lambert very much. If not for Lambert, he would’ve been the only good singer doing anything from the last five years of the show. But Lambert pretty much blows him away. I hope we see Lambert between here and the finale.

Joshua is next and Jimmy basically called his version of It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World the best of the season.

And finally, young Jessica comes to center stage. Jimmy didn’t think her Etta James song was the right move, but thought the Jennifer Holliday song was fantastic and said that Tommy Motolla told him she was the real deal. Please, keep Tommy Motolla away from young Jessica.

It’s Jenny Lo time. She’s singing Dance Again. Okay, she’s probably not singing live. But she’s Jenny Lo. You don’t really watch her to hear her singing. You just watch her to watch her.

The first person to make the top three is Jessica Sanchez. The next person in the top three is Joshua Ledet. Why do I have a feeling Phillip is leaving us? Please no. Please no.

Phillip Phillips is through! And we have the strongest top three in quite some time. Jasmine Trias, I mean Hollie Cavanagh is gone.

  • American Idol Season 10 – Who Makes The Final 6?

I write two American Idol blogs per week. On Wednesday’s contest portion of the show, I blog for Popblerd! which is run by the guy who used to run this blog, Money Mike. And on the elimination show, I blog here, which I’ve been doing for the last couple of years. This year, I’ve been incorporating tweets into my Wednesday blog to give it more of a “live” feel, even though I generally write it five hours after the show has already been broadcasted live on the East Coast.

I missed one tweet last night that pretty much described my feeling on who is going to go home tonight. My homegirl Michelle was a little bothered that I decided to omit her fantastic tweet, but I had to let her know that I simply missed it. The show goes fast when you’re searching through Twitter to find good tweets. However, she let me know what she said in a comment today.

I had to work late last night and watched the show from Stefano’s performance on. During his performance I kept thinking, I know Stefano “just can’t stop” but I wish he would! It’s a bummer becuase I’ve liked him from the beginning but now he’s getting annoying. He’s trying way too hard. J. Lo will definitely shed tears when he leaves the show.

Stefano was singing Ne-Yo’s Closer and he continuously sang the lyric, “I just can’t stop.” Michelle, and others, wished he would’ve.

    J. Lo Booty Alert
As usual, J to the LO (hello) looks hot to deaf. But there wasn’t even a glimpse of the backside action.

Stefano and Jacob start out singing Hey Soul Sister. Haley and Lauren chime in. It was not good.

I have finally figured out where I’ve seen Jacob’s dance moves.

Scotty, James, and Casey are singing Viva La Vida. This was much better. However, what I don’t get is why aren’t they having the kids harmonize like they were in groups if they want them to sing as a group?

Ryno asked Jacob about being called a diva by his fellow contestants. He said that it wasn’t in a bad way while James was shaking his head. Scotty said there was a cupcake named after him in his hometown. And Casey held up a painting someone made of him. They surely needed to fill two minutes or something.

Ryno tells Casey and Jacob to stand up. Casey is safe because of the J. Lo kiss and Jacob is in the bottom three for his diva-ness.

David Cook is on stage singing The Last Goodbye. It’s a nice little ditty, but I’m not running over anyone to buy it on iTunes. Cook brought his mom up to the stage so she could meet Steven Tyler. I think Tyler snuck in a lip lock there like usual. Daddy Cook may get some action tonight now that his wife is all hot and bothered.

Ryno has Stefano, James, and Lauren on the stage. Stefano is in the bottom three, as predicted. Lauren and Big Game James are safe. Haley and Scotty are up and I would put big money on Scotty being safe here. Of course, Scotty was safe. But soon thereafter, Ryno also told Haley that she was safe, so she wasn’t in the bottom three for long.

Katy Perry is singing E.T., which would’ve been pretty cool if Kanye West was there, but unfortunately, we only got young Katherine. I think it would’ve been cool if she came out with some Reeces Pieces, but alas, she wasn’t creative enough. I get why this song is popular, but it’s pretty drab and boring until Kanye’s verses. Ok! Kanye is there! I should’ve expected it. He rarely misses an opportunity to be seen on camera in front of large audiences. Go Yeezy.

Yep, Stefano is going home. Both Michelle and I called it. Actually, I don’t think it was that hard of a choice. I bet many people figured he was going home. He should be ok with going home. When he gets home, it will be groupie central time. He sings Lately as his goodbye song which was one of his better performances. If he sang like this last night, he wouldn’t have gone home.

It reminded me of maybe the greatest performance of Lately ever. Wait until about the 1:10 moment.
