  • American Idol Season 12: Cutting Down To 2

    Tonight’s American Idol featured quite a surprise. I predicted that Kree would go home after Wednesday’s performances. And let’s just say that didn’t happen.

    But the real news was that Randy Jackson was leaving his judge’s chair after 12 seasons.

    This has been a very weird season. All along, it seemed like the judges would only be around for the year, and with Jackson gone, it seems like the rest of the judges will also leave the sinking ship. Can’t we sign these judges to two year deals?

    Who rocked the stage?

    Lauren Alaina surprisingly took the stage with the first single from her second album, called Barefoot And Buckwild. Alaina looked good, dropping some weight in the proces while still showing that young fire that she had a few years ago while battling Scotty McCreary.

    Alicia Keys showed up with short hair while performing Tears Always Win. Swizz Beatz must’ve been proud.

    While Mariah Cary didn’t necessarily perform live, she did show off her new music video for #Beautiful with Miguel. I’m not sure what the hash tag is for. The song is very Miguel, but the video is very Mariah. She was trying to shake what her mama gave her throughout.

    Who is going to the final two?

    It was a very interesting final two to say the least.

    If you started watching from the beginning, there were two contestants who stood above the others. Those two were Candice and Kree (Summer). But when the smoke cleared, Angie had surpassed Kree (Summer) and Kree looked like she had lost her smile. So when the vote came down Thursday night, of course it was Angie who was eliminated in a surprise of all surprises. I had Angie pegged for winning.

    As it turns out, what we expected from the beginning has come true. It’s Kree (Summer) vs. Candice. And Nicki says to work it.

    There wasn’t going to be any shenanigans this time.

    Last week, Ryno didn’t eliminate anyone. This week, someone would not only be eliminated, but the votes from the last two weeks would decide who went home. Thus, since Candice and Amber were in the bottom two at the end of last week’s show, they were already in a hole.

    After Wednesday night’s show, here’s how I ranked the remaining contestants:

    1. Candice
    2. Angie
    3. Amber
    4. Kree (Summer)

    But because Amber was already in the bottom two last week, I predicted that she would go home. I think Kree has one more week. Let’s see if I was right.

    But first…

    Who rocked the stage?

    Season 7 winner, David Cook performed his new single Laying Me Low. His performance was a bit uninspired, but it was good to see him.

    Will.I.Am. performed a song from The Great Gatsby soundrack, Bang Bang. I’m not quite sure what to think because it’s cheesy, but it’s also much better than his general fare. Take a look for yourself.

    Who were in the bottom two?

    Ryno first let us know who made it to next week. The selling point for next week is that they get to go home and get celebrated.

    The first person to make it through was Angie. I think it’s really her show to lose.

    The second person to make it through is the best singer of them all, Candice.

    That left Amber and Kree in the bottom two, which is how you would’ve predicted it.

    Who went home?

    As predicted, it was Amber who went home. In one of the more touching send-offs, Amber sang I Believe In You And Me and broke down at the end with her father right next to her. Definitely a tear-jerking moment.

    If Candice is sent home next week, we will have an interesting discussion. And maybe rage. Or Nicki may just combust.

  • American Idol Season 12: Cutting Down To 4, Again?

    On Wednesday night, Ryno said that there would be a surprise that would shake up the show. I didn’t know what it could be, but my first thought was that it would be something to do with the save that was never used. Maybe they would get to use it one more time? Well, I was close.

    After Wednesday night’s show, I wrote that I thought Kree (Summer) would go home. But as I was discussing the show with our own George Bounacos, I forgot an important American Idol rule.

    When a contestant receives nothing but praise for most of the season and finally receives a brow beating by the judges, that contestant’s fanbase will come out in droves to save them. There’s no way Kree (Summer) was leaving on Thursday.

    Who rocked the stage?

    Stefano Langone from season 10 performed a song called Yes To Love and maybe the thing that stood out most is that all four women are much better than he is. He loses to Janelle too. At least beats Lazaro.

    Another person who is worse than the four remaining women is Lee DeWyze, who also performed on the show. He did his best Phillip Phillips impersonation and he was only about half as good as Phillip. I’m still hoping a story comes out in the future that they miscounted and DeWyze didn’t really win. Free Crystal Bowersox!

    Who were in the bottom two?

    Ryno put the women into two groups. In one group was the top two and in another, the bottom two.

    Amber and Angie were placed in separate groups, which meant one of them was in the bottom two. Candice was placed with Amber and Kree with Angie.

    Ryno said that Candice and Amber were in the bottom two and the judges looked a bit confused with that one. Yep, the Idol rule lives on.

    Who went home?

    Ryno was about to announce who was going home, but he gave a huge tell. Instead of saying, “The person going home is,” he said, “The person who could be going home is,” which spoiled the surprise.

    Of course, he said no one was going home. Because the judges didn’t use the save, there was an extra week before the final. They will combine this week’s votes with next week’s to see who goes home. Amber fans, y’all better start voting now.
