  • American Idol Season 11 – Who Makes The Top 12?

Wednesday night was the start of the nitty gritty for this season of American Idol. The top 13 performed for their pop singing lives. The boys performed Stevie Wonder songs while the girls had to suck it up and sing Whitney Houston songs. If you missed any of it, I recapped it on Popblerd.

Here were my picks for the top and bottom 3:

    Top 3
    1. Jessica Sanchez
    2. Erika Van Pelt
    3. Phillip Phillips

    Bottom 3
    1. Elise Testone
    2. Shannon Magrane
    3. Jeremy Rosado

Right out of the X Factor playbook, the judges will make the final decision tonight which means Jenny Lo will cry. The lowest vote getter for the boys and girls both will be in the bottom two and only one will make it to next week.

I had to fast forward through the group performance. I couldn’t stomach them hurting Stevie Wonder’s feelings by screwing up As so badly.

Ryno brings up Jessica, Elise, and Hollie to the stage. Jimmy Iovine says that Jessica’s performance was the best in Idol history. Fantasia just gave him the side eye. Jessica and Hollie are safe and Elise is in the bottom three. Baby girl is in trouble.

If you missed Jessica’s rendition of I Will Always Love You, you owe it to yourself to watch it.

Ryno calls in Hee Jun, Jermaine, and Colton. Colton and Hee Jun are safe while Jermaine is in the bottom three. America didn’t like Jermaine enough to keep him in after Hollywood. This could spell doom for ‘maine.

Last year’s runner up Lauren Alaina is singing Georgia Peaches. She’s lost a little bit of weight and looks good. Ryno called her, “Our own …” I wonder if when he sees Corey Clarke, he goes, “Hey, there’s our own, Corey Clarke.” Alaina is trying to be Carrie Underwood Jr. and that’s not a bad person to try to emulate. But we already have one.

Ryno brings in Erika, Shannon, and Skylar. Surprisingly, it’s Erika who takes the seat first. She’s in the bottom three for the girls. Skyler is safe while Shannon is in the bottom three. I still think Elise is the one to go.

Phillip, Joshua, Jeremy, and Deandre are up. I’m going to guess that Jeremy and Deandre fall into the bottom three. Ryno says Phillip is safe. Jeremy is in the bottom three predictably. And I was wrong. It’s Joshua who is in the bottom three. Immediately, Ryno saves Erika and Joshua. So it’s Shannon and Elise for the girls and Jeremy and Jermaine for the boys.

Your girl Mary J. Blige, who might be the greatest mentor in American Idol history is performs Why.

Ryno is back. Steven Tyler thinks Jeremy is going home. Ryno tells Jermaine he’s safe. I think Jeremy is toast against Shannon, but might have a life against Elise. Ryno tells Shannon she’s safe. So it’s Jeremy against Elise. And the three judges save Elise. Damn. Big Pun is gone.

  • American Idol Season 10 – Who Makes The Final 4?

After last night, it seems like Jacob is going home. Don’t worry. I’m not going to sit on my pedestal and shout at everyone who doesn’t like Jacob. He didn’t have a great night and if there’s a week that he goes home, I’d be fine if it was this week. It doesn’t mean that I’m off the Jacob bandwagon because I think he has the best voice of anyone bar none, but he didn’t perform at the level that everyone else did, per their standards.

    J. Lo Booty Alert
She did a full twirl this time, but she’s wearing a poofy skirt so though I saw the junk, I didn’t really see the trunk.

After a 5-person ditty, they are in the kitchen making omelets with Chef Ramsey. What this has to do with American Idol, I have no idea, but it has a lot to do with cross promotion. Lauren won the omelet contest, much like she’s going to win the American Idol contest.

Lady Antebellum is singing Just A Kiss. Is there a band out there featuring women called Sir something or other? Sir Mix-A-Lot doesn’t count. He just ogles female backside. They don’t count as part of the band.

Ryno tells James to stand up. Jimmy Iovine says James’ voice shut down on the ballad because of emotion and gave him an 8 out of 10 on last night’s performances. Ryno tells him to start a group on the far side of the stage.

Lauren is up and Jimmy says that she wussed out of hitting the big note last night on Unchained Melody and predicted that she’d be in the bottom two. Lauren goes on the opposite side of James.

Back to the horrible Chef Ramsey cross promotion. Lauren and Jacob are in a competition where they have to put on blind folds and figure out what kind of food they are given, which Lauren won.

It’s J. Lo’s turn to perform live. Let’s hope she doesn’t sing live. She’s wearing some baggy gold pants that don’t do much for her, but I have a feeling we’re getting a good look at that money maker. We got one good look and it’s not the same as it was during the Selena (Selenas!) days, but it’s still grand. Oh ya, and she did sing live. Pitbull joined her as well.

It’s Jacob’s turn. Jimmy says that Jacob had a rough night and he lost confidence. He gave him a six. Jacob joins Lauren’s side of the stage.

Haley gets graded by Jimmy next and he says she gets a ten. He says that if her confidence is there, she’s a lock for the finale. Haley joins James’ side.

Last but not least, it’s Scotty Too Hotty’s turn to be graded. Jimmy liked Scotty a lot last night, but didn’t give him a grade. Scotty is safe. Ryno tells him to choose the side to stand with who he thinks is safe. He doesn’t do it, but Ryno puts him with James and Haley and all three of them are safe.

It’s down to Lauren and Jacob. Lauren is already crying. Jacob has a steel reserve. Jacob goes home. Lauren is relieved. Jacob says he can now go out and make his kind of R&B music. He wails away as he says goodbye, while being surrounded by his Idol friends. Goodbye Jacob. Seacrest out!

  • American Idol Season 10 – Who Makes The Final 6?

I write two American Idol blogs per week. On Wednesday’s contest portion of the show, I blog for Popblerd! which is run by the guy who used to run this blog, Money Mike. And on the elimination show, I blog here, which I’ve been doing for the last couple of years. This year, I’ve been incorporating tweets into my Wednesday blog to give it more of a “live” feel, even though I generally write it five hours after the show has already been broadcasted live on the East Coast.

I missed one tweet last night that pretty much described my feeling on who is going to go home tonight. My homegirl Michelle was a little bothered that I decided to omit her fantastic tweet, but I had to let her know that I simply missed it. The show goes fast when you’re searching through Twitter to find good tweets. However, she let me know what she said in a comment today.

I had to work late last night and watched the show from Stefano’s performance on. During his performance I kept thinking, I know Stefano “just can’t stop” but I wish he would! It’s a bummer becuase I’ve liked him from the beginning but now he’s getting annoying. He’s trying way too hard. J. Lo will definitely shed tears when he leaves the show.

Stefano was singing Ne-Yo’s Closer and he continuously sang the lyric, “I just can’t stop.” Michelle, and others, wished he would’ve.

    J. Lo Booty Alert
As usual, J to the LO (hello) looks hot to deaf. But there wasn’t even a glimpse of the backside action.

Stefano and Jacob start out singing Hey Soul Sister. Haley and Lauren chime in. It was not good.

I have finally figured out where I’ve seen Jacob’s dance moves.

Scotty, James, and Casey are singing Viva La Vida. This was much better. However, what I don’t get is why aren’t they having the kids harmonize like they were in groups if they want them to sing as a group?

Ryno asked Jacob about being called a diva by his fellow contestants. He said that it wasn’t in a bad way while James was shaking his head. Scotty said there was a cupcake named after him in his hometown. And Casey held up a painting someone made of him. They surely needed to fill two minutes or something.

Ryno tells Casey and Jacob to stand up. Casey is safe because of the J. Lo kiss and Jacob is in the bottom three for his diva-ness.

David Cook is on stage singing The Last Goodbye. It’s a nice little ditty, but I’m not running over anyone to buy it on iTunes. Cook brought his mom up to the stage so she could meet Steven Tyler. I think Tyler snuck in a lip lock there like usual. Daddy Cook may get some action tonight now that his wife is all hot and bothered.

Ryno has Stefano, James, and Lauren on the stage. Stefano is in the bottom three, as predicted. Lauren and Big Game James are safe. Haley and Scotty are up and I would put big money on Scotty being safe here. Of course, Scotty was safe. But soon thereafter, Ryno also told Haley that she was safe, so she wasn’t in the bottom three for long.

Katy Perry is singing E.T., which would’ve been pretty cool if Kanye West was there, but unfortunately, we only got young Katherine. I think it would’ve been cool if she came out with some Reeces Pieces, but alas, she wasn’t creative enough. I get why this song is popular, but it’s pretty drab and boring until Kanye’s verses. Ok! Kanye is there! I should’ve expected it. He rarely misses an opportunity to be seen on camera in front of large audiences. Go Yeezy.

Yep, Stefano is going home. Both Michelle and I called it. Actually, I don’t think it was that hard of a choice. I bet many people figured he was going home. He should be ok with going home. When he gets home, it will be groupie central time. He sings Lately as his goodbye song which was one of his better performances. If he sang like this last night, he wouldn’t have gone home.

It reminded me of maybe the greatest performance of Lately ever. Wait until about the 1:10 moment.

    Seacrest out!
