  • Friday Throwback – It Was A Good Day

While playing basketball on the black concrete courts of Mount Pleasant High School, I had some great times. But I don’t know if I ever secured a triple double. You know, when you get double digits in points, rebounds, and assists. If I did, I’d remember because that would’ve been a good day. Ice Cube remembers.

    – Does dude need to be wearing gloves in LA? It doesn’t look cold. Are they for driving? Do thugs wear gloves?

    – For it being a good day, Cube still looks angry. I’d hate to see what he’s like on a bad day.

    – See, Cube was just messin’ ’round and dude had a triple double. That’s a great day as far as I’m concerned.

    – Can you imagine Too Short and Cube watching Yo! MTV Raps? That’s a sitcom right there.

    – That 7-11 wasn’t for a slurpee.

    – He got laid AND the Lakers beat the Supersonics? Must’ve been a good day.

    – That poor butt went right to sleep. Damn good day.

If you want to see part II, you’re going to have to Check Yo Self.

  • Friday Throwback – Crazy

I know some of you remember The Boys. And no, these aren’t the cats that hung out with Heavy D, or Waterbed Heav as I like to call him. The Boys were a group of 4 young brothers who came out on Motown. They had a couple of hits, but then simply vanished. It was just as they were starting to make their mark. I read in a magazine that they moved to Africa, learned the native language, and started recording music as The Suns Of Light. And this was just recently. These dudes are crazy. And this video is must see.

    – For those scoring at home, they are spoofing late 80s videos.

    – That’s George Michael eating some fried chicken.

    – That’s Bobby Brown (check out the hair).

    – “You’ve got me going crazy, crazy”

    – Um, they spoofed Madonna? Ha!

    – Did that dude just do Johnny Gill doing Stevie Wonder? Check out the eyes.

    – I think ‘Keem is a little light in the ass to be going after her.

    – Ha! He couldn’t get Janet’s count from Rhythm Nation down.

    – Oh man, the zombie chasing baby Michael and the fake Ola Ray made me spit out my cereal.

    – I guess spoofing Milli Vanilli isn’t really spoofing right?

I think it’s been about 17 years since I’ve seen that video. Crazy.

  • Friday Throwback – Good Vibrations

Before he was known as Mark Wahlberg, he was simply Marky Mark, punk kid brother of New Kids On The Block member Donnie Wahlberg. Before he was Academy Award nominated, he was making a cameo in the video for Step By Step. Before he was working with Martin Scorsese, he was chillin’ with the Funky Bunch.

While this young rappin’ whippersnapper might not be the same cat who has a great Hollywood career today, when I think Mark Wahlberg, this is the first thing that comes to my mind.

    – “I wanna see sweat comin’ out ya pores.” I always thought that line said something else, but then again, I didn’t speak Bostonian back then.

    – Dude really should’ve taken some boxing lessons before trying to hit that speed bag.

    – Even though he was already 20 years old, he could’ve passed for a 16 year old teenager. I think that’s why he appealed to the young girls so well.

    – Older brother Donnie produced this one.

    – Though he said he was drug free and his body was healthy, I’m skeptical. I hope he was really only drinking protein shakes back then.

    – The black and white vibe worked well, though when Marky Mark had his shirt off, it was black, white, and really white.
