  • Not Necessarily The News – 50 Cent, Britney, John Legend, And Of Course, Kanye

    More crazy music/gossip news.

50 Cent Says He’s All Over Eminem’s New Album
That’s reason number 25 why Eminem’s album is probably going to be a disappointment. Won’t we hear enough of 50 on his own album? And on Dre’s album?

    From MTV.com:
50 said he’s planning to be “all over” Relapse. “You don’t think I’ll take advantage of that opportunity for everybody to look at me and listen to me?” he asked. “Yes, I will.”

I might have to take the zero on that one.

    Kanye Is Sensitive
Kanye says that it hurts him when 50 Cent talks mess about him. According to Mr. West, 50 Cent became his favorite rapper when Mase left. While Kanye has bad tastes in favorite rappers, he just needs to see 50 for what he is and that’s a hype machine. Don’t be sensitive Kanye. Dude is just trying to sell records.

Is Britney 2 Live For Radio?
Britney’s latest single, If U Seek Amy might have to be edited in order to make it to radio. Let’s say they change it to If U See Amy. Is it really more nonsensical than the song is originally? It doesn’t make sense at all as it is. The song did the job they wanted it to do. It gained more press for the album. Well done, even if the song is terrible.

I’ll end this with John Legend’s latest video for Everybody Knows. I wish you the best, I guess.

  • Not Necessarily The News – Dr. Dre, Eminem, Lil’ Kim, And (You Guessed It) Kanye West

I’m back with more musical gossip newsy goodness.

At Least We Know Detox Is For Real
A leaked track from Detox? According to MTV.com, the good doctor was none too happy that a track that could’ve been (and might still be) on his heavily delayed album hit the web. I’m all for whatever Dr. Dre has in store, but with R. Kelly on the hook, I think it makes it an automatic dislike for me.

    Eminem Gets Leaked Too
Money Mike wrote about this yesterday, but I just found it funny that both Dre and Eminem are working on their albums so closely together and songs get leaked days apart. They should put their albums out at the same time to see who sells more.

    Lil’ Kim Feels Left Out
Kim is upset about how she’s depicted in the new Biggie movie Notorious. I’m not exactly sure what she expected her role to be. She wasn’t the wife. She wasn’t the baby mama. She was one of two known mistresses. Did she expect to be seen as Biggie’s main inspiration?

    She’s also a bit paranoid.

“I knew something was fishy about them having the writer call me. When I spoke to the writer I felt like he was trying to play me, so I wouldn’t give up anything,” Kim explained to the magazine (Hip Hop Weekly). “I knew I wouldn’t have control of how I was depicted. I did correct the writer about Biggie’s nickname for me. He had written that Biggie called me Big Momma. Biggie never called me Big Momma. As a matter of fact, he didn’t even like that name for me. He used to call me Mookie.”

And what would this column be without a little Kanye.

Kanye West Needs Two Months To Work Out So He Can Pose Naked
For reals Kanye? I understand that the man has layers like ogres. I understand that he had a rough year. But I think this guy is going to flame out. He says he wants to break the rules of hip hop. I’m fine with that. But when he says that he wants to be more popular but have less fans, it shows that he’s far too worried about what people think. You can’t make pop music, sell millions of records, and then be so sensitive.

Kanye clarified that by “less fans” he meant having a core of 20,000 devotees who understand him, rather than a swell of 100,000 “fly-by-night” followers who just favor him because he’s the hot thing out.

He should ask Common if having less fans works out for you.

  • They Put Me In The Mix – JSlow 7: The Jodecidal JSlow

After JSlow 6, I didn’t really have anything in the pipeline. With my son being born, I was buying less music so I decided to create a JSlow tape specifically focusing on one singer or group which meant I didn’t have to buy any new music to make the tape. I thought about doing Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder, but for some reason, I went with Jodeci. Why? I’m not exactly sure, but I’d bet it was because of K-Ci and Jojo’s All My Life. That was “our” song. And by “our”, I mean that when K-Ci and Jojo’s Love Always came out, I told my now ex-wife about the song (several months before it hit) and it became “our” song. It’s still fun to listen to that song today because while it doesn’t have the same meaning, it definitely makes me smile.

And I think roughly all the babies born between 1991 and 1994 were created to a Jodeci song.

JSlow 7: The Jodecidal JSlow (circa late 1999 – meaning only the first two K-Ci and Jojo albums were used)

    1. Forever My Lady – Jodeci
    2. Hello Darlin’ – K-Ci and JoJo
    3. Cry For You – Jodeci
    4. How Could You – K-Ci and JoJo (Bulletproof Soundtrack)

Ain’t no more blue left in my sky, only cloudy moments

    5. Lately (live version) – Jodeci
    6. Stay – Jodeci
    7. Love U 4 Life – Jodeci
    8. Don’t Rush (Take Love Slowly) – K-Ci and JoJo
    9. Feenin’ – Jodeci
    10. Life – K-Ci and JoJo (Life soundtrack)
    11. Come And Talk To Me – Jodeci
    12. All My Life – K-Ci and JoJo
    13. I Care ‘Bout You – Milestone (Soul Food soundtrack)
    14. Tell Me It’s Real – K-Ci and JoJo

    • What’s funny to me is that Life isn’t even a love song. But it was a song on the movie Life starring Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence, and at the time, it was the best possible duo ever on screen for me. I also really liked the song.

    • I didn’t add Last Night’s Letter for some reason, which was actually the second single on K-Ci and Jojo’s rookie album, and the single before All My Life.
    • I always thought the Cry For You video was odd because Jodeci was in the desert, but wearing leather and Sox caps.
    • How Could You was the lead single from the Adam Sandler and Damon Wayons movie Bulletproof which was awful and great all at the same time.
    • The live version of Lately (a Stevie Wonder cover) is just fierce.
    • Feenin’ was heated and all of a sudden I had a new word in my vocabulary that normal people didn’t understand.
    • I Care ‘Bout You was a song from the movie Soul Food and was a made up group featuring K-Ci and Jojo, Babyface, and his brothers Kevon and Melvin Edmonds.
    • Tell Me It’s Real was the lead single for K-Ci and Jojo’s second album called It’s Real.
