  • The X Factor USA Season 2 Top 4 – What You May Have Missed

    Via Wikipedia
After last night, it was pretty obvious that CeCe Frey needed to go home. And it’s not even because she was at her worst. It’s just because now that it’s down to halfway point, it’s more and more clear that she’s the worst of the group. And it’s not like this is a super fantastic group.

Because they are eliminating two people again this week (and I’m still not clear why they want to zoom through the season), the second person who should leave isn’t so clear. Tate Stevens hasn’t been great in a few weeks. Fifth Harmony keeps getting picked on by LA Reid and probably would’ve been better on a 2013 version of Popstars. And Diamond White is hit or miss with the judges.

    So what happened?

Demi and CeCe rocked the leopard forehead paint as a sign of solidarity, which probably also means that they fully believe they have a chance to lose.

Melanie Amaro performed her new song and if she was on the show this year, it would be a two girl race between her and Carly Rose.

Ke$ha dirtied up my TV and hurt my ears as she performed live. She really looks like a shorter Brooke Hogan. And that’s not a compliment.

Demi pointed at Ke$ha and told CeCe, “See, that’s who I’m trying to get you to copy!” Okay, that never really happened.

    Who went home?

CeCe Frey was eliminated first and made a speech about loving oneself so that you don’t need to rely on others for love. Sounds like baby girl is lonely.

The two remaning acts with the lowest votes were Diamond White and Fifth Harmony. Fifth Harmony butchered one of my favorite Mariah Carey songs ever, “Anytime You Need A Friend.”

Diamond White didn’t do much better, singing “I Hope You Dance” but she kept her composure so well. It was almost robotic in that she didn’t show a whole lot of emotion. But it didn’t matter. Both LA Reid and Demi booted her out. I was surprised. LA hasn’t really liked Fifth Harmony all season long, but he still kept them. I expected Demi to send it to dead lock and have the actual lowest vote-getter be sent home, but she didn’t.

    What was the voting order?

    1. Tate Stevens
    2. Carly Rose Sonenclar
    3. Emblem3
    4. Fifth Harmony

    What does it all mean?

I think this means Tate fans were really worried that they needed to save him and came out of the woodwork to get him through. I think it’s pretty clear that he’s a one-trick pony and he’ll have to country it up for the rest of the show. I’m bored of him by now. This should be a Carly Rose and Emblem3 final. We’ll see if it breaks down that way.

    Mario Lopez out!

  • American Idol Season 9 – Who Will Be The First Loser?

David Cook at the American Idol Tour in 2008
This has been a very newsworthy season for American Idol and we’ve just started.

    – Paula left and Ellen joined.

    – Simon made it official that he’s leaving at the end of this year and starting X-Factor in the US.

    – And unbelievably, Janell Wheeler was eliminated after wearing the greatest pants a woman has ever worn.

But we also have some pretty big news at SonicClash as it pertains to this show. Before you continue with this post, head over here to join a contest in which you can win an Amazon gift card. Check out the post for details.

    Ok, you’re back.

Last night, the show was much better than I expected it to be. There were very few truly wretched performances and there were even a couple standout performances too.

Now, on to the elimination show.

David Cook opens with a performance of Jumpin’ Jack Flash which is most newsworthy for the pimp suit he’s rocking, but the dude also shows off some great energy.

Ryno brings up Paige and she’s in the bottom three. Even the laryngitis story didn’t save her. People are mean.

He tells Lee that he’s safe.

Siobhan, who will be known here from now on as creepy girl because she literally scares me, is up next and Ryno tells her that she’s safe as well. If she’s so safe, how come I need to double check that I locked the door when I see her on screen?

Little Aaron Kelly is up next and little Aaron Kelly is safe.

Ryno tells Andrew and Tim, who were two of the worst guys last night, to stand up. Kara says she’s not surprised that either guy could be in the bottom three. It’s not Andrew. It’s Timothy.

Orianthi, who is most famous for being one of Michael Jackson’s guitarists on the This Is It tour that ended before it started when he passed, is performing her new single According To You. It’s very much on the Kelly Clarkson tip.

We’ll see how long this stays up on YouTube, but here’s her performance:

Ryno tells Didi that she’s safe before doing the same with Crystal.

After getting inconsistent advice from the judges on what her best lane is, Katie is safe.

    Big Mike is safe.

Casey and Lacey are up next. Lacey’s my pick to go home. We’ll see what happens. Lacey is in the bottom three and Casey is safe.

Your bottom three are Lacey Brown, Paige Miles, and Timothy Urban.

My pick is still Lacey. Paige absolutely doesn’t deserve to be there. Not this early.

Ryan says Tim is safe and sends him back with the rest of the crew. It’s down to Paige and Lacey.

Ke$ha, who’s kind of like a low rent Lady Gaga, is performing before the elimination and I’d add the video here, but it’s not really worth it. Two dudes called 303 dropped a few bars each in the middle and I’m just in awe. I get Ke$ha somewhat. She’ll be gone in two years. But 303 look like two guys who should be drugged out characters in an independent college film.

And now it’s time. The first person eliminated from this season’s American Idol is Lacey Brown. Well, I nailed that one.

The judges still have the opportunity to use the save on her, but I think there might be better odds on East Tennessee State upsetting Kentucky tomorrow than on the judges saving Miss Lacey here.

Will Young’s elimination song tells Lacey to Leave Right Now.

  • Chart Chat 1/13/10: All About Ke$ha

Susan Boyle has finally met her match.

After a six-week run at the top, Boyle loses the #1 spot on the Billboard Albums Chart to another new female artist. Dance/pop singer Ke$ha opens at the top with her debut album “Animal”. The album scans 152,000 copies in its’ first week out-easily beating Boyle’s total of 93,000.

As is customary for this time of the year, the chart is very quiet. The next highest debut comes all the way down at #27, where “American Idol” Katharine McPhee debuts with her latest, scanning 15,000 copies. Only a small handful of albums showed an increase over the previous weeks’ sales, with an iTunes promotion being responsible for the biggest increases-for Radiohead’s “Kid A” and Lenny Kravitz’ “Greatest Hits”. The two decade-old albums more than doubled in sales this week, and it’s not a stretch to think that Lenny’s involvement in the leaked Michael Jackson track that briefly lit up the internets last week was also a catalyst in his sales increase.

Another increase this week occurs towards the bottom of the Top 200, where Vampire Weekend’s debut re-enters at #199, with an 11% increase in scans over the previous week. Look for VW’s sophomore release, “Contra”, to challenge for the top spot next week. However, with Ke$ha being a new artist and people just now finding out about her, she could maintain her stronghold on the top of the charts for a second week.

    Here’s this week’s Top 20:

    1) Ke$ha “Animal”
    2) Susan Boyle “I Dreamed a Dream”
    3) Lady GaGa “The Fame”
    4) Alicia Keys “The Element of Freedom”
    5) Mary J. Blige “Stronger with Each Tear”
    6) Soundtrack “Alvin & the Chipmunks 2-The Squeaquel”
    7) Taylor Swift “Fearless”
    8) The Black Eyed Peas “The E.N.D.”
    9) Justin Bieber “My World”
    10) Lady GaGa “The Fame: Monster”
    11) Rihanna “Rated R”
    12) Michael Buble “Crazy Love”
    13) Young Money “We Are Young Money”
    14) Owl City “Ocean Eyes”
    15) Glee Cast “Glee: The Music Vol. 2”
    16) Eminem “Relapse”
    17) Lady Antebellum “Lady Antebellum”
    18) Carrie Underwood “Play On”
    19) John Mayer “Battle Studies”
