  • We Are The World 25 For Haiti Video

We Are The World 25 For Haiti
Today, the We Are The World 25 For Haiti music video was released. Lionel Richie was on Oprah Winfrey earlier to talk about it.

According to MTV.com, Richie told Oprah how Michael Jackson would be included in the song and video.

    He said:

We have Michael singing that exact part [the chorus] and Janet singing along with him.

Without further ado, here is the video along with a few comments from me underneath:

    – Justin Bieber sings Lionel’s intro?

    – Is that Nicole “The Terminator” Scherzinger singing next to Jennifer Hudson?

    – Putting MJ and Janet together was very classy and cool. I’m proud of how they included him.

    – Babs Streisand? Tony Bennett? I guess they had to average out the age because of Bieber and Miley Ray Cyrus.

    – I think Enrique Iglesias had a hard time escaping our love.

    – I think they should’ve had Jamie Foxx do Brother Ray’s memorable part.

    – I get Wyclef being a part of the song, but they should’ve told him to save the “someone please call 911” voice.

    – I thought Stevie Wonder came back for round two, but it was really Adam Levine.

    – I’m surprised Pink wasn’t singing in the air and twirling around.

    – Lionel: “Hey Usher, see, what we want you to do is do Huey Lewis’ part.” Usher: “Who is Huey Lewis?”

    – Thankfully, I didn’t enlarge the video, or else Fergie’s face would’ve made me fall out of my chair. As it was, I only hid my eyes.

    – Nicole “The Terminator” Scherzinger gets two parts? Is Lionel gettin’ that?

    – Look at Toni Braxton with the 1980s skater hair-cut. Someone un-broke her heart.

    – In the case of Lil’ Wayne, this time I approve of the Auto-tune.

    – In the case of Akon, I don’t approve of the Auto-tune. Dude can sing a little bit.

    – In the case of T-Pain, well, I would’ve rather seen MC Hammer on the track.

    – Well, I guess I got my wish with Jamie singing Brother Ray’s part.

    – I love that Uncle L, future of the funk, is leading the hip hop section. But um, where’s Kanye? And is that Tyrese with the rappers? Black Ty?

    – Ok, there’s Kanye, but what is will.i.am doing standing with Kanye. Dude can’t hold Kanye’s jockstrap in a suit case.

There it is. I thought Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie did a really good job with the song, blending the original with some hip hop, and Wyclef’s Haitian sound.

  • Chart Chat 4/22/09: The Ascension of Hannah Montana

    miley1

It’s a good time to be Miley Cyrus. Not only is she achieving film success with “Hannah Montana”‘s soundtrack, but the movie’s soundtrack rises to #1 in its’ third week on the Billboard charts, scanning over 133,000 copies. This catapults the album past Gold status, with about 554,000 copies sold in four weeks.

The chart’s light with debuts this week, as things relax a bit following the big Easter rush. Diddy’s Day26 settle for a #2 debut with their “Forever in a Day” album, scanning just over 113,000 units. The only other debut in the Top 50 comes from rock band Silversun Pickups, who are new at #7 with 43K.

Most albums on this week’s chart nosedive in sales this week, but there are a select few that buck the trend. Kings of Leon’s American breakthrough, “Only by the Night”, moves up 31-18 on a 4% increase to 20K, while other albums that show staying power include Darius Rucker’s “Learn to Live” (+6%) and 3Oh!3’s “Want” (+10%). Jennifer Hudson’s performance on “American Idol” last week spurs a 36% jump in sales for her eponymous debut, which moves 103-42 on this week’s chart.

On the singles side, the biggest news is a #3 debut for Eminem on Hot Digital Songs with “We Made You”. The Black Eyed Peas’ “Boom Boom Pow” and Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb” hold the top two positions.

Next week, Rick Ross should lead the charts, with expected high debuts from the likes of Depeche Mode and Asher Roth.

  • American Idol Season 8 – Will The Save Be Used?

    Let’s get it on.

Ryno comes on and says that Miley Cyrus is performing tonight. I’m guessing Jamie Foxx is nowhere to be found.

Also, Jennifer Hudson is performing tonight, which should be really good.

The group song is performing Maniac from Flashdance. Where are the leg warmers? Adam has to be wearing them. Nope, and a special moment was lost.

Anoop almost bailed on the stairs.

Zac Effron is in the audience wearing a beanie for no good reason whatsoever. He has nothing on the Jonas Brothers.

Ryno asks Allison to stand up and she is safe.

Adam is up next and he seems halfway interested knowing that there’s no way in hell that he’s going home. He is safe as well.

Anoop’s upside ya’ head is in the bottom three again. That might be his new home since he’s been there so often.

Jennifer Hudson is on stage singing If This Isn’t Love. I commend Danny Goakey for having the courage to sing on stage and holding it together for his deceased wife. But this is also real courage here. That’s a strong woman right there.

It was also a very nice song. The album isn’t fantastic, but she sings everything well on it. It’s just not too inspired, unlike most of her great work in her young career.

Paula says she’s surprised that Anoop is in the bottom three and when asked if Anoop deserves to be in the final three, Simon said, “Yes.”

Kris and Lil are next. Simon says that Kris was brilliant last night. Ryno says one of them is in the bottom three and one of them is safe. Lil is not the safe person. She joins Anoop.

Matt and Danny are up next. Danny is safe and Matt joins his friends in the bottom three.

Out of Anoop, Lil, and Matt, the one who is sent back is Anoop.

Miley Cyrus is out to sing The Climb.

While Miley might not be a good singer, I think the girl has talent. She has such great comedic timing for a young actress and she’s such a goof ball, unafraid to act the fool. I’ve been able to watch her Hannah Montana TV show a few times with the kids and it’s such a fun show. She just does the music stuff to show people that she can, but her future is in TV or movies. I hate to compare her to Lindsay Lohan, but I always thought Lohan was such a great physical comedic actress. I think Miley might be able to do what Lohan couldn’t because of all her screw-ups. Ok, I’m done tooting her horn. I just needed to do something while she was singing so I didn’t have to pay attention to it.

The judges have two weeks to use the save. Simon says that he’d think about using it on one of the two and that person might be surprised.

Matt is a goner. It’s easy for me to say that it’s a mistake for Matt to be gone, but really, it’s his own fault. He’s been so inconsistent. But now he’s singing for his American Idol life.

The crowd is calling for the save to be used. While they were deciding, Paula’s boobs nearly ate Simon’s face. I think that helped Simon make the decision to save Matt, though he said he didn’t think Matt had a chance to win the competition. Then why use the save?

Simon says that next week, two people will go home. He also warned us that it’s disco week.
