  • First Look: Robin Thicke’s “Sex Therapy”

    Mothers, lock up your daughters.

Folks who listen to R&B music are aware of certain songs that plain and simple ooze sex. Think Prince’s “Adore” or Barry White’s “Playing Your Game Baby” or “Turn off the Lights” and “Close the Door” by Teddy Pendergrass, or “‘Til the Cops Come Knockin’” by Maxwell, or…you get the picture. Well, the dude ruling the sex-jam game right now is Robin Thicke. He first set panties afire back in 2007 with his breakthrough hit “Lost Without U”. The song established Thicke as R&B’s breakout phenom and catapulted his sophomore album “The Evolution of Robin Thicke” to 1.5 million in sales.

After a hit-or-miss follow up with last year’s “Something Else”, Robin is back with the title track to his fourth album, “Sex Therapy”. Believe me when I say that draws nationwide will be hitting the floor upon hearing this jam (which bears a slight resemblance musically to J. Holiday’s “Bed”. Thicke teams with Polow da Don for a jam that practically screams S-E-X.

The video is just as erotic. Not only does Robin get to bone the lovely Paula Patton on the regular (and she’s expecting his baby!), but he gets to ogle and play around with several lovely females in this video. Talk about people you’d happily trade lives with.

Anyway, I couldn’t find any embed code for the video, but Urban Daily has the video here. You might need to turn on the fan to cool down afterwards.

“Sex Therapy” arrives in stores and online December 15th.

  • First Look: Beyonce & Lady GaGa “Video Phone”

The nets have been buzzing for weeks about the collaboration between Beyonce and Lady GaGa. The video premiered at midnight on MTV, and…it’s…interesting, I guess. The video itself just seems to be an excuse for Beyonce to get all abstract on us…it doesn’t have a heck of a lot to do with the song. It’s pretty cool from a visual standpoint. GaGa doesn’t actually add a heck of a lot to the proceedings here, except make Beyonce look that much more physically attractive by comparison. I mean, I’ve admitted in a previous post that I think GaGa is talented, but DAMN she ugly!!! There’s a cute little chair dancing routine which mainly consists of writhing and crossing and uncrossing the legs (Janet did a much better chair dancing routine in the “Miss You Much” video) and there are parts where Beyonce appears as pinup Bettie Page and as…M.I.A.???

    ConFUsing, I tell you.

I’d probably like the video a little more if the song didn’t suck. While “I Am…Sasha Fierce” has grown on me somewhat over time, it’s still not the world’s best album, and this song is not one of its’ better tracks.

  • First Listen: “Fresh Out the Oven” by J. Lo

Yep, Jennifer Lopez still makes records. Who knew?

We haven’t heard anything on the movie or the acting front from Lopez for a hot minute. Granted, she’s been busy raising kids with her hubby Marc Anthony, but let’s also face facts-her last couple of projects have been flops. Well, come 2010, La Lopez (or JelLO…as I like to call her) is coming back for that ass, and the first track from her upcoming album is “Fresh Out the Oven”.

Lopez has created a handful of good dance tracks over the years-“Waiting for Tonight” and “Get Right” come to mind (the beat on “Get Right” was SICK), but at the end of the day she’s just another pop/dance diva, and “Fresh Out the Oven” will do nothing to differentiate her from that pack. Actually, “Oven” sounds kind of regressive, like this was left over from one of her earlier albums. Not to mention that J. Lo trying to rap is beyond laughable.

The lyrics are pretty cliche and J. Lo has covered this territory before in songs like “Love Don’t Cost a Thing”. As a 40-year old mother of two, these lyrics just don’t sound right coming out of Lopez’s mouth anymore. It sounds like she’s trying to be someone she’s not.

With Lady GaGa conquering the pop/dance market, it remains to be seen what kind of audience Lopez has left. What do you guys think?
