  • Not Necessarily The News – Michael Jackson, 112, and John Cena

These stories were just so odd/funny/crazy that I had to post them.

The Players Don’t Dwell In Room 112
Thanks to Soulbounce for giving us at least some news on Bad Boy’s old group, 112. However, it’s bad news. According to the article, Michael Keith says that 112 is no more because of some shady business dealings. Not like I necessarily want to hear another 112 album again, but you hate to hear these stories about old music groups who at one time had success, and can’t deal with not being successful anymore. Is it bad that the only member I remember is Slim?

M.O.P. Sues John Cena And WWE
The SOHH blog had the story about M.O.P. suing the WWE because John Cena’s theme music uses a made up phrase that samples an old M.O.P. tune.

The Infringing Work includes a distinctive ‘freestyle’ rap — ‘BRRR Abado’ that has been sampled from the Infringed Work and is clearly repeated three times in the Infringing Work, at the introduction, the second chorus, and the third chorus.

    Settle it in the ring!

The offending material is at the 11 second mark. Play below.

Jermaine Jackson Says The Jacksons Are Going To Reunite – Again!
Billboard.com has a story where Jermaine Jackson says that the Jacksons will reunite in 2009 and baby sister Janet will open up the show. I won’t believe it when I see it. I’ll believe it when Michael says it.

  • Beyonce’s Video For “If I Were A Boy” – Great Concept, But Is It Too Much Of A Stereotype?

The video to Beyonce’s new single If I Were A Boy features a great concept, is awesomely shot, and will definitely give couples something to think about.

My cousin pointed this out on her Facebook page, and I decided to give it a look. I don’t necessarily agree with Beyonce’s message, but I’m glad I watched the video.

The song itself is Beyonce complaining out loud about gender equality in relationships. I’m not sure if it’s biographical or not (didn’t you immediately think Jay-Z and Rihanna?), but she’s definitely trying to give you the idea that guys get away with being disrespectful in relationships and she shows how hurtful it really is.

It’s Beyonce’s song and she has the freedom at this point in her career to say whatever she wants. And I’m actually glad she does say something with her music. But I do think it’s a big time stereotype. I’ve never flirted with another girl in front of my woman’s face and then said, “It’s not like I’m sleeping with her,” so maybe I’m not someone who can relate to her message.

    What do y’all think?

  • Friday Throwback – Juicy

I’m going to piggyback on Money Mike’s post about the trailer to Notorious, the movie about Biggie Smalls. I’m not convinced that it’s going to be good, but thankfully, good actors like Angela Bassett and Derek Luke are involved. I’m also quite worried about how the movie will handle the situation with Tupac.

My introduction to The Notorious B.I.G. was through his song Juicy. I don’t remember hearing him on the remix to Mary J. Blige’s Real Love out here on the West Coast. There was a certain familiarity to the song because of the Juicy Fruit sample, as if the song had been on the radio forever when I had only heard it for the first time. And everyone loves a rags to riches story, and Biggie told that story so well with witty, yet very real lines. I also loved how he littered his rhymes in this song with pop culture references (Robin Leach?) without sounding corny.

    – It was all a dream …

    – Big’s look worked for him. Had he been this good lookin’ dude with all the floss, you wouldn’t have had to listen to him.

    – I love the back and forth between showing him at the pool living the life, and then flashing to the jails.

    – Please dismiss the text in the right corner that says, “Sisqo Unleashes Hip Hop’s Sexiest Videos”. It was a long time ago y’all.

    – “Super Nintendo/Sega Genesis, when I was dead broke, man I couldn’t picture this.” I wonder what Big would have to say about PS3s, Wiis, and XBox 360s.

    – That is really Biggie’s mom in the video too.

    – And if you don’t know, now you know.
