  • First Look: Beyonce & Kanye’s “Ego”

Well, if you’re gonna make a song called “Ego”, why not get Kanye West to make a guest appearance, right?

Aside from Mr. West’s lengthy opening verse, there’s nothing different about Beyonce’s “Ego” video, but I’m sure the guys in the audience don’t mind the fact that they can watch that booty shake one more time.

I still don’t especially care for the song, but I’ve gotta admit, Beyonce puts together some very interesting visuals for her records.

  • First Look: DMB’s “Funny the Way it Is”

What was the name of that ridiculous Adam Sandler movie where he and Kevin James played two straight firefighters posing as a gay couple for marriage benefits? I may not remember the movie’s title, but I do remember the brief appearance of Dave Matthews in the movie, a wordless cameo as a flamboyant clothing store employee. Based on facial expressions alone, it was obvious that Dave had the chops to be a fabulous comedic actor. Well, in his new video, Dave spends a ton of time mugging for the camera. “Funny the Way it Is” actually kinda reminds me of some of Peter Gabriel’s excellent 80s videos.

One thing kinda weirds me out, though. This is a Dave Matthews Band video, right? Then where the hell is the band? Stefan and Carter appear in the clip for about 3 seconds each, while Boyd Tinsley isn’t in the video at all. Weird. Why do I get this sinking feeling that this current tour will be the band’s last?

Anyway, check the clip out and let us know what you think.

  • First Look: Asher Roth “Be By Myself”

OK, I’ll admit it. I don’t hate Asher Roth. At the very least, I give him props for not trying to be something he isn’t (hear that, 2009-era Eminem?). Maybe it’s because I hang out with a bunch of college kids, but “I Love College” touched my guilty-pleasure nerve and led “Asleep in the Bread Aisle” into my record collection. The album’s not great (although I wouldn’t call it my most regrettable music purchase of 2009), but Asher makes a pretty decent bid to avoid one-hit-wonderdom with his new single “Be By Myself”, which features the Round Mound of Rap, Cee-Lo Green. Man, despite the fact that this is nominally Asher’s video, don’t you wanna hear Cee-Lo rap again? (yeah, we know he can sing, but he can rhyme better…seriously…he might be the most underrated emcee *ever*).

Anyhow, check out the video and let us know what you think…
