  • The Top 100 Songs of the ’00s, #98: “Clint Eastwood”

    gorillaz

    Not quite random thoughts:

Show of hands: does this song remind anyone other than me of being high?

I’m not sure if it’s the song’s musical bed-sampling music from “The Good, The Bad & The Ugly”, a movie starring (you guessed it) Clint Eastwood, or if it’s Damon Albarn’s dazed-sounding chorus. It could be the rhyming from the perpetually stoned Del tha Funkee Homosapien. Might be all three. Either way, I practically catch a contact just from *listening* to this song. Maybe that’s why I like it so much.

Could a song like this have possibly come from anything other than a cartoon band? And what else could the line “I’ve got sunshine in a bag” be about?

Gorillaz=best supergroup of the decade. Audioslave would be close if they hadn’t made that last sucky album.

  • First Look: Beyonce’s “Ego”

Hey, have you checked out my friends (including me, occasionally) at The Round Table? They’ve got a new web address and a new look, which you can see here. Also, my people at Popdose have a new look as well, make sure you check them out.

We also have a Twitter page! Follow us here!

Now, on to Sasha Fier…uh, Beyonce.

If it works once, why not do it again? That’s obviously what Beyonce was thinking when she decided to make a video for “Ego”, the fifth (fifth!!) single from “I Am…Sasha Fierce”. Rocking the same three girl-dancing lineup that made “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it)” a viral sensation (and a surefire nominee for Best Video at this year’s VMAs), “Ego” showcases even more sexy dance moves, with Beyonce rocking the mother of all fright wigs and showing off those gargantuan peanut-butter thighs. DAMN!!!!

As for the song itself? Meh. I wasn’t crazy about the album when I first heard it, and I can’t say that many of the songs have grown on me over the past six or seven months. Allegedly Kanye West is on tap to appear on this song’s remix. Kanye. Appearing on a song called “Ego”. ‘Magine that.

I can’t help but think that this song’s about Jay-Z and the word “ego” is being used as a euphemism for…oh man, perish the thought!! Is Beyonce even that clever of a songwriter?

Anyway, peep the video and let us know what you think.

  • Alicia Keys: Good Girl Gone Bad?

    akeys

So there’ve been rumors floating around forever about Alicia Keys making time with hip-hop producer Swizz Beatz. Most of the general public laughed it off. “Alicia Keys is a good girl”, they said. “And Swizzy’s a married-or rather in the process of getting divorced- man (to R&B singer Mashonda)”. Well, guess what, boys and girls? The hip-hop producer has recently confirmed that he and Keys are an item, which is sure to put a dent in Alicia’s good-girl image.

According to the New York Daily News, Swizz has professed his love for the sexy award-winning songstress/actress, but “we’re nowhere ready for a baby or a ring”. Gotta keep it hip-hop, I guess, huh Swizzy?

Of course, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, so Mashonda, who filed for divorce earlier this year, is looking for Swizz to hand over just a tad bit more paper in child support. Ooh, the plot thickens.

Sounds like Alicia got herself into some serious drama. Something tells me that the lyrics on her next album will be pretty damn interesting…
