  • Just Another Country Tuesday…New Releases 10/23/07

Her debut album is the biggest seller to come out of the American Idol camp. She won last year’s Grammy for Best New Artist. Hopefully, she gave Tony Romo some kicking lessons. She’s Carrie Underwood, and she has a new album in stores today called Carnival Ride. Considering the success of Carrie’s debut CD (over 6 million sold, yada yada yada), I would assume this is something of a slam dunk, no?

    Check out her website: http://www.carrieunderwoodofficial.com/

You can also catch the video for her new single “So Small” here…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUtFEKhtB30

In other ex-idol news, remember Bo Bice? His new album, See The Light also comes out today. But there’s a catch, folks!! Bice’s new album is (somewhat fittingly) available in Wal-Mart stores. That’s the same gambit that The Eagles will be running with their upcoming release. Weird. Sorry for you Northeast folks (especially those of us in NY and NJ) who don’t have Wal-Marts in the area.

No other superstar acts have records in stores today-although there are a few mid-level names making waves (Coheed and Cambria, System of a Down’s Serj Tankian, a very interesting sounding duet album from Robert Plant and Alison Krauss). Me? I’m just holding out for another seven days, when the trainwreck we all know as Britney Spears descends on us. Can you feel the anticipation?

  • "At The Wrecka’ Sto’": New Releases 10-16-07

After a couple of weeks with a plethora of new music-GOOD new music, you know there had to be the inevitable letdown, huh? Well, this week is it.

(For me at least…my opinions may or may not be the opinions of the staff of musichelpweb or consumerhelpweb.com. But damn it, they *should* be!!)
Anyway, this week’s two biggest releases come from Kid Rock & Jennifer Lopez, which would have been fantastic if this were the year 1999. In 2007? I dunno. Rock’s new album, Rock & Roll Jesus, finds him leaving rap/rock behind for good in favor of a pure rock sound. Nice to know he found time to record in between marrying Pamela Anderson and beating Tommy Lee’s ass. Meanwhile J. Lo (who is not at all pregnant) follows up her Spanish debut earlier this year with Brave, an album that features her signature pop/dance/R&B sound, which you & I know as Paula Abdul, circa 1989.
It’s early October, and autumn *should* be in the air (yesterday’s temps of 90 in the Northeast tell me otherwise). So, how does one REALLY know what time it is? Artists have begun to release holiday albums in full force!! Among the artists spreading good tidings this week: Josh Groban, Patti LaBelle, The Isley Brothers, Michael Bolton, Yolanda Adams, The Smithereens, and of course, it just wouldn’t be Christmas without Mannheim Steamroller!!
For you country/pop fans, LeAnn Rimes is all grown up and her new album, Family hits stores today. Rock fans might wanna know that this album contains a track with Bon Jovi. Everyone else might wanna know that LeAnn is officially smoking hot these days.
Elsewhere, if you’re under 15, you might be digging on the new album by the Naked Brothers Band (you also might not be familiar with the phrase “digging on”…sorry…). If you’re still stuck in 2001, there are new albums arriving from Puddle of Mudd, Vanessa Carlton and Alter Bridge (who, in case you’ve forgotten, are Creed minus Scott Stapp). If you’re still stuck in 1991, you might wanna check out the new album by former Best New Artist Grammy winner Marc Cohn (remember “Walking in Memphis”?), as well as a new set from electro-dance pioneers Information Society. Hell-there’s even something for those of you stuck in 1981!! A new Debbie Harry record!!
If you’re stuck in 1971, well there’s not much I can tell you. Ah…there are a couple new Clapton greatest hits packages!! See, something for everyone!

Sorry folks, I’m feeling snarky today.
  • At The Wrecka’ Sto’: 10/2/2007 Edition

Wow-I completely forgot what the date was. Get out of the summer and the days all run together. At any rate, there’s nothing that compares to last week’s onslaught of new releases. Actually, the entire month of October looks kind of quiet in regards to things that I would actually like, but there is a pretty good amount of stuff hitting shelves today.

BRUUUUUUCE: Mr. Springsteen is back, although quite honestly, he never left. Didn’t The Seeger Sessions come out last year? Anyway, this time he’s brought the E Street Band with him and their album is called Magic. First single Radio Nowhere is pretty awesome, and it’s nice to hear Bruce and company rockin’ again after taking a little detour to be folky.

Welcome Back: A couple of hit artists are returning after fairly lengthy absences. Annie Lennox is back after four years with the intriguingly titled Songs of Mass Destruction. It was produced by Glen Ballard, who has been behind the boards for artists ranging from Dave Matthews Band to Alanis Morissette to Michael Jackson. Annie’s long been a proponent of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, so her albums have retained a remarkable consistency. Meanwhile, matchbox twenty, who have been dormant for almost half a decade, are back with Exile on Mainstream, a double album that features one disc of their greatest hits (as if you don’t know Unwell by heart) and one disc of new material.

Gimme The Hits!: From Exile On Mainstream to the guy that made Exile On Main Street, The Very Best of Mick Jagger arrives in stores today. Considering the man never really made much of an impact as a solo artist, I’m quite curious to see what was included on this compilation. There will be no such worries on Faith Hill’s The Hits, which will feature #1s like This Kiss and There You’ll Be along with her many duets with her smokin’ hot hubby Tim McGraw.

R&B (Rhythm & Bonin’): R&B’s creative freefall comes partially (well, mostly) from the fact that many of the artists making soul music nowadays sound so similar. Ordinarily, I would have a bit of a problem telling Trey Songs apart from J. Holiday, but Holiday has one of the most addictive singles out right now with Bed, which basically follows this formula:

    Rihanna’s Umbrella + Prince’s Do Me, Baby X hip-hop influence.

I’ll probably download the single from iTunes and bypass the album, but hell, what a single. Anyway, both artists have albums coming out today, but I will forgo them in favor of newcomer Kevin Michael, who has gotten a lot of press (allegedly, his sound is Prince meets Robin Thicke) and at the very least has a really cool Afro.
