    Editor’s Note: Because the charts have been friggin’ boring lately, I’m gonna turn the Sunday morning Chart Chat column over every two weeks to Mikey so he can discuss the goings on on the rock charts. Take it away, Mikey! (exits stage left…see y’all next week when we can talk about bands (hopefully) other than Metallica and T.I…damn it, his album’s gonna be #1 next week. Oh, well…

    Analysis: Not much to write about this week as no real movement on the chart.  Metallica regains the #1 spot, otherwise, there was nothing to get excited about…. I wasn’t joking last week about Tesla, their new song I Wanna Live is a rockin’ tune, and should hopefully see movement soon.  Now I’m not the biggest Tesla fan, but I have to give credit where credit is due….  It appears that Chinese Democracy, the much awaited Guns N Roses album, is finally going to come out in November as a Best Buy Exclusive.  Does anybody even care anymore?  It’s only Axl Rose and maybe some contributions from Izzy Stradlin, and should be noted as an Axl solo album.  I don’t expect much….  Speaking of retail exclusives, we already know that AC/DC’s Black Ice album can only be purchased at Wal-Mart, but now a Rock Band 2 track pack featuring AC/DC songs will be exclusive at Wal-Mart as well on November 20th.  Guess this means I’m going to have to suck it up and make a spend.  I wonder if I already have a Wii Guitar for Guitar Hero and a Mic from the American Idol game, can I just shell out $50 for the game, or do I need to buy the whole shebang for $200?…. The new Buckcherry song is catching on as an anthem, and I expect the song to rise up the charts soon…

    Analysis:  Theory Of A Deadman can now claim the fact they are relevant on both mainstream and modern rock charts, as the song enters the Top 10 for the first time since being on the chart for 15 weeks…Weezer inches one step closer to the top spot with Troublemaker.  I’m not sold on this new Offspring song, and think Weezer is going to take the top spot pretty soon… Not much to discuss…

    Analysis:

    Theory Of A Deadman regains the #1 spot with their sentimental rocker about a relationship gone sour.  The song is beginning to grow on me….  AC/DC stays put at #3, I’m still waiting for them to hit the top spot which I think is going to happen in the next two weeks….  Use Me by Hinder might make my Top #5 singles of the year, the song really kicks ass…  Did anybody think Three Doors Down would be still be relevant in today’s music scene? almost ten years after their debut?  They enter the Top 10 with their second single (Train) from their self-titled new album… I’m curious to see if Tesla can make the Top 10 with their new single, I Wanna Live, which is getting a lot of local radio play.  They haven’t had a Top 10 Mainstream Rock hit since 1994’s Mama’s Fool which peaked at #5…  Not much else movement this week.

    Analysis:

    The Offspring grab the #1 spot with their new single which is their third ever #1, and their first since Hit That topped the Modern Rock charts in 2004.  Personally, I think the song is pretty bland, and it hasn’t gotten much exposure on my local rock radio.  Maybe I’m listening at the wrong times…  Can Weezer get their new song to the top spot and make it two #1 Modern Rock singles from the new album?  Maybe, maybe not!…Rise Against was the biggest mover up three spots to #5 with their new single.  I have to do my homework on these guys as I’m not too aware of what they are all about.

  • New Music In Stores & Online 6/17/08: Coldplay, The Offspring, Katy Perry & More!!

    Viva La Vida by ColdplayLast week’s releases brought some form of salvation to an ailing record industry as it looks like Li’l Wayne is going to be able to do what Usher’s latest album couldn’t and shift in the neighborhood of a million units in it’s first week. There’s a chance that this can happen in consecutive weeks with the release that kicks of this new music roundup:

    Coldplay-Viva La Vida or Death & His Other Friends: I like Coldplay enough that I’d be willing to forgive the uber-pretentious title. Now, will the music be the equal of the band’s three other well-received (and quite good) albums? The title track bodes well for the qualitative value of this album (I’ll admit that I haven’t heard “Violet Hill” yet), and it’ll be interesting to hear exactly how much like U2 Brian Eno makes the band sound. Plus, you’ve gotta give Chris Martin props for resisting possible temptation and not allowing Jay-Z or Kanye West (or Gwyneth, for that matter) to make cameo appearances on the album.
