    18) “The Boss” Rick Ross feat. T-Pain
    19) “Pocketful of Sunshine” Natasha Bedingfield
    20) “What You Got” Colby O’ Donis feat. Akon

*Nope, I don’t know who Colby O’ Donis is either. But…his song features Akon, so I also really don’t care who he is. But here’s his video in case you’re interested.

*Chris Brown has three songs in this week’s Top 10. Is it safe to say Chris Breezy is going to be the 2008 version of T-Pain?

*One thing I neglected to mention last week (and thanks to Joel Whitburn’s Chart Beat Chat column for making me aware of this), is that Static Major, who guests on Lil’ Wayne’s “Lollipop” (down 1 spot to #2 this week), is the seventh artist to hit #1 on the singles chart posthumously, following Otis Redding, Janis Joplin, John Lennon, Jim Croce, The Notorious B.I.G. and Soulja Slim. Static, who was better known as a songwriter (Aaliyah’s “Are You That Somebody?” and “Try Again”) was also 1/3 of the singing group Playa, who had a hit with “Cheers 2 U” a decade or so ago.

*Jesse McCartney becomes the latest former boy-bander to achieve chart salvation. Not only is he new in the Top 20 with “Leavin”‘” (which auomatically becomes his highest charting single), but he also has a co-write on the #1 single, Leona Lewis’s “Bleeding Love”. Not bad for the kid who was the lead singer of D-list boy band Dream Street.

*Latest annoying song to finally get the chart boot: “Apologize” by Timbaland & OneRepublic.

*How weird was it to see Madonna on “106 & Park” this week? Particularly in light of her work with Justin Timberlake, who has unofficially been banned from the network in light of his participation in “Nipplegate”?

*Finally, a big shout to the duo of Atmosphere, who score one of the surprise debuts of the year (with one of the best album titles of the year, too!!). Definitely a good look for indie/backpacker rap!!

  • Friday Throwback – Crazy

I know some of you remember The Boys. And no, these aren’t the cats that hung out with Heavy D, or Waterbed Heav as I like to call him. The Boys were a group of 4 young brothers who came out on Motown. They had a couple of hits, but then simply vanished. It was just as they were starting to make their mark. I read in a magazine that they moved to Africa, learned the native language, and started recording music as The Suns Of Light. And this was just recently. These dudes are crazy. And this video is must see.

    – For those scoring at home, they are spoofing late 80s videos.

    – That’s George Michael eating some fried chicken.

    – That’s Bobby Brown (check out the hair).

    – “You’ve got me going crazy, crazy”

    – Um, they spoofed Madonna? Ha!

    – Did that dude just do Johnny Gill doing Stevie Wonder? Check out the eyes.

    – I think ‘Keem is a little light in the ass to be going after her.

    – Ha! He couldn’t get Janet’s count from Rhythm Nation down.

    – Oh man, the zombie chasing baby Michael and the fake Ola Ray made me spit out my cereal.

    – I guess spoofing Milli Vanilli isn’t really spoofing right?

I think it’s been about 17 years since I’ve seen that video. Crazy.

  • Vital Idol: Paula Abdul Doesn’t Predict The Future Tonight

Last night’s show was hard to watch. From Paula screwing up and analyzing a singing performance that hadn’t happened yet, to Simon being very grouchy, to the unorganized flow to the entire show, it was a hot mess. Neil Diamond didn’t really get a lot of air time and was low keyed because of the lack of time. The reason for the lack of time was because they decided to have each singer perform twice. Ryno Seacrest mentioned several times that they had to speed through things in order to get everyone done on the one hour show. No one wants to miss that 9 o’clock news.

    Paula’s Screw Up

Brooke White and Jason Castro were again the worst of the bunch. But at least Brooke had great, shiny, silver pants. But they were also the worst of the bunch last week too. And neither of them went home. Syesha Mercado has been great these last few weeks, but she’s also been in the bottom more often than not. If she goes home tonight, it will be a second straight week where someone undeserving went home.

    On to the show …

    – Ryno just showed Idol alumni Gina Glocksen and Constantine in the audience. I think he buttoned up the very bottom button on his shirt. He was all chest hair tonight. Ryno also made him do the perv face.

    – Ryno just set the record straight on Paula. He said that she’s not addicted to Vicodin and she’s still a part of the family. Ok, he didn’t say anything about Vicodin.

    – Jason Castro is safe. Syesha just cringed.

    – The two Davids are predictably safe, and deservedly so, since they are the most consistent out of the entire group of contestants.

    – For some reason unknown to me, Natasha Bedingfield is singing Pocketful Of Sunshine. A little research showed me that it’s her new single. She then went over to hug David Archuleta who giggled like a little school girl, I mean, excited young man.

    – Neil Diamond looks pretty sharp in his leather jacket and black slacks. But not as “pretty amazing” as Brooke’s pants from last night.

    – In the bottom two are Brooke and Syesha and you can tell that Brooke expects to leave just by looking at her face. And she’s right. Big Rube is celebrating Brooke home tonight.

    – I’ll miss two things about Brooke. I will miss watching for how she wore her hair, either with the natural curls, or straight. And I will miss those great pants she wore last night. What I won’t miss is her fumbling the lyrics, as she did tonight on her go home song.

What is the theme for next week? If it were up to me, it’d be New Kids On The Block night. David Cook would turn Step By Step into a grungy rock song.

    Seacrest Out!
