  • More NKOTB On The Today Show

Our lead writer and editor “aka Money Mike” posted about this earlier, but the videos from MSNBC are up and I decided to share them here in a second post and give a little play by play.

I know what you’re all thinking. Why are two grown ass men excited about the New Kids getting back together? Um, hmmm. Good question. We’ll get back to you on that one.

Step By Step, Right Stuff, and Please Don’t Go Girl

    – I think Jordan should’ve probably stopped running before starting to sing Step By Step.

    – When Joey Mac started Please Don’t Go Girl, his face said, “Please voice, don’t crack.”

    – I love how Donnie doesn’t even try to sing. He just tries to get phone numbers while he goes into the crowd.

    Dear Summer(time)

    – I like the first single Summertime and they brought it out at the perfect time.

    – I’ll second what Mike said – Are Jon and Danny’s mics even on?

    – How did Jordan lose that keg underneath his shirt from the last time we saw him on Surreal Life? He should book and sell that diet. Oh I forgot, it’s the “Hmm, we can make a lot of money for one last run so I better get my ass in the gym” diet.

    – I wonder if some of those backup dancers were even old enough to see these guys the first time around?

    Interview and Tonight

    – I agree with Mike in that this isn’t necessarily the best song for them, but I have a feeling that because it was one of their last hits, it has some significance to them.

    – And it gave them a chance to bust out with some funky old school dances. And did someone say, “Oh scribble”?

    – Does this mean no more Jordan albums where he re-sings all the old New Kids songs? If that’s the case, I welcome them back!

  • NKOTB Hit The "Today" Show: 5/16/08

    I almost slept past this!!

The fellas didn’t look bad on their first live performance since 1994. The choreography was tasteful and befitting of their ages, Donnie Wahlberg is unquestionably still the leader of the group, and Danny Wood and Jon Knight’s mics were probably turned off (there were definitely support background vocals being used here, which isn’t an especially big deal). “Summertime” should be a fairly big hit, although I retched a little during the performance of “Tonight”, a song that should be buried in a cave somewhere.

    What did y’all think?

  • Friday Throwback – Lady (You Bring Me Up)

When I was a kid, my dad used to leave the VCR on all night recording MTV and VH-1, back when they both played videos. I guess he wanted to check out what he missed in the morning. But there was one video that I still remember until this day just because of how wacky it was. I sat there wondering why Lionel Richie was singing and dancing in booty high soccer short. Why wasn’t he just dancing on the ceiling? It was outrageous.

    – Those are some short white shorts.

    – They must’ve had to rehearse those dance sequences at least once before shooting the video.

    – Even the referee was getting his boogie on.

    – Which one is the father of that guy Adam from “The Real World”? I called him Adam Richie for most of the season until he did that terrible rap which lead me to believe there’s no way he could be Lionel Richie’s biological son with that lack of musical talent.

    – Did they just kick a basketball at Lionel? And really, wouldn’t this video be better on the basketball court? Imagine Lionel in those same shorts, except with a tank top sized jersey, showing off a massive tuft of chest hair and gold chains danging from his neck. Ok, I think I went too far with that one. Back to the soccer field.

    – Wait, I hope the girls threw those drawers at him.

    – You just knew that girl with the long hair in the pig tails was trouble.

    – There must be a “Behind The Music” story about how this video was a rib on a groupie activity that the Commodores had one time right? I imagine that story would start by Lionel saying, “One time, we were hanging out with Pele …”
