  • Friday Throwback – Someday (with a bonus video)

I was on Yahoo.com yesterday and noticed that a blogger was writing about Mariah Carey’s new video and how even though people think Glitter was the low point in her career, she actually got paid a ton of money to leave Virgin and only did one album for them. The blogger noted that it was a Frank Lucas’ like business decision. Mariah is Mariah in the new video and she mentions YouTube in the new song and it made me think about some of her old videos, including this one, which is most memorable for her attempt at dancing.

    • I’m guessing those jeans are the reverse of low rise.
    • Look at her shimmy and shake.
    • Baby Mariah is a little darker than regular Mariah.
    • “The one you gave away will be the only one you’re wishing for.”
    • Sometimes that blouse falls off her shoulder and then in the next scene it’s perfect. I wonder if Tommy Mottola was cracking the whip to make her pull her blouse back up.
    • There it is. The very famous terrible Mariah version of the running man.
    • Dude’s playing the drums on that bucket for a long time.

Time for a little bonus coverage. Here’s Mariah’s new video for Touch My Body.

  • Vital Idol: The Season 7 Top 12

In the “go home” show before the real season starts, four more contestants were sent packing to try and fulfill their dreams without the American Idol branding. On the girls’ side, Asia’h Epperson and Kady Malloy were given the boot while Luke “Perry” Menard and “Boy Danny” Noreiaga also had bad days Daniel Powter style. That leaves us with the following folks in top 12.

    Amanda Overmyer
    Brooke White
    Carly Smithson
    Chikezie
    David Archuleta
    David Cook
    David Hernandez
    Jason Castro
    Kristy Lee Cook
    Michael Johns
    Ramiele Malubay
    Syesha Mercado

I think the singing talent is there this year, but my main worry is that there aren’t enough standout players. I’m not sure there’s a “total package” in the group, but there are definitely a few who seemed to bring their A games to the final cut downs. As it is, I think David Archuleta, David Hernandez, and Carly Smithson have the best shots, but truly, this is a crap shoot.

    Here are some other thoughts:

    • If this was “Britney Spears Impersonation Idol”, Kady Malloy would’ve won hands down.
    • Amanda Overmyer shouted her way into the finals.
    • David “The Stripper” Hernandez made it rain during the last two weeks.
    • If there was Johnny Gill night, Chikezie could make them all say, “My, my, my.”
    • I think the nerves will eventually get to Big Dave Archuleta.
    • Poor Asia’h Epperson lost the Whitney Houston challenge.
    • To show how stressful this show must be, Kristy Lee Cook used to smile.
    • I bet the first thing that came into Lionel Richie’s mind when he saw David Cook run through Hello was, “Outrageous!”

Next week, it happens for real.

  • I Get Money Wrestlemania Style

According to many news sites (including MTV news), 50 Cent is scheduled to second Floyd “Money May” Mayweather in his match against the Big Show at Wrestlemania 24 on March 30 in Orlando, Florida. 50 Cent rapped Mayweather’s intro music last year for his fight with Oscar De La Hoya and was seen on HBO’s 24/7 documentary series hanging out with Mayweather. Mayweather has even used 50’s I Get Money as his WWE theme music during his TV appearances.

Wrestlemania is WWE’s Super Bowl and all of their attention and focus goes toward the event. Just last year, partly because of Donald Trump’s involvement, Wrestlemania 23 was the highest grossing event in company history. From the outside looking in, 50 Cent’s involvement with WWE looks harmless. But based on an article that came out earlier this year by the Albany Times Union, 50 Cent may have more in common with WWE superstars than just appearing at Wrestlemania. He was on a list of entertainers who reportedly purchased steroids and human growth hormone in the past. Aligning himself with the WWE is an interesting choice, but the buzz around the report has died down to where it’s out of the public eye already. But I wouldn’t be surprised to hear about it again as Wrestlemania comes closer.

John Legend is scheduled to sing America The Beautiful to start the show and Snoop Dogg is pegged to appear on the show as the MC of the Playboy Bunnymania match. Maybe 50 can teach Snoop how to pump some iron and they can become a tag team.
