Singer-songwriter Carole King has been writing hit songs since the 1960s, when she and her ex-husband, Gerry Goffin, first began collaborating. Together, they wrote dozens of songs, many of which are now considered standards. Carole King’s first hit song, “Will You Love Me Tomorrow”, was written in 1960 when she was just 18 years old. Goffin contributed the lyrics to that classic hit, which has now been covered by many diverse artists. She is regarded as one of the most successful American songwriters of all time.
Carole King is also well known as a singer and pianist. In 1971, she released her eponymous album, Tapestry, which topped the U.S. album charts for fifteen weeks. To date, she has won four Grammy awards and was named MusiCares Person of the Year in 2014. In 2013, King was honored with the very prestigious Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. She is the first woman to be so honored. In 2010, she and James Taylor teamed up to create the very successful Live At The Troubadour album.
Additionally, Carole King’s life has recently been immortalized in a musical entitled Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. Beautiful stars Tony award winner Jessie Mueller, and is scheduled for a pre-Broadway run at The Curran Theater in San Francisco in September and October 2013. The show is scheduled to run previews on Broadway starting November 21, 2013 at the Stephen Sondheim Theater in New York City.
